Fleming College’s Sustainable Building Design and Construction program takes experiential learning to a whole new level. Based at the Haliburton Campus, this intensive, cutting-edge certificate program has students design, source and build a completely green structure over the course of the 20-week program. These buildings have no carbon footprint and are among the most sustainable in Canada. Students use reclaimed and recyclable materials, straw bale and rammed earth walls, geothermal heating and cooling, rain water collection systems, and photovoltaic solar power in the construction of each building. Once completed the building becomes an educational tool, teaching communities about green living. |
