Parent/Guardian Testimonials

The following testimonials are from our Summer Camp Feedback Survey.

2012

My daughter was away from us for a total of four weeks. She has never been gone for so long before but I knew she was safe and having fun, so I didn't worry. She made a lot of new friends this year and is already chatting to them via i-phone. She anxious to return next year, that's for sure. Thanks to the staff for being so awesome... great teamwork.

The camp is so much fun! The staff are nice and cool. I felt really good at camp. You will never be bored because there  are so many activities to do. One night I was homesick but my counsellor made me feel better right away.

Our two girls (12 and 15 now) have been attending Camp Kawartha for 5 years now. They have experienced and grown so much from all the crazy/wonderful things you all do up at camp. They have a language all of their own when talking about camp life and they do talk about it non-stop all year round. We followed a friend there and that friend moved on, but the girls would never dream of leaving. You have them for life now.

Our son Jeffrey has been to 2 other overnight camps and hated both.  He really enjoyed Camp Kawartha and is now keen to return for the pre-leadership training camp.  We're all thrilled!

When I asked my son what he liked best about Nature Camp he responded - Everything, it was awesome!  He attended 6 different day camps this summer, and really enjoyed the variety of activities at Camp Kawartha Day Camp, and raved about the instructors every night.  The swamp day was a highlight of the summer, and was such a great way to learn about wetlands while having fun getting wet and muddy.  Even the "closing ceremonies" with a slideshow and awards were fantastic and he still has his certificate on his wall.

Camp was a great experience.  There were so many activities and I made alot of friends. I love the LITS and counsellors since they are all so friendly and generous with their time.  I hope I can be a counsellor one day too!

The introductory camp session provided my son with a manageable three days in which he thoroughly enjoyed new experiences and left with a desire to stay longer!  He is keen to attend a longer session next year and to further develop new skills and friendships gained at Camp Kawartha.

Camp Kawartha is everything you'd expect a great summer camp to be. The staff are full of energy and are sensitive to the kids and their needs. The place is in great shape. (I was a camper there back in the 80's and things have definitely been updated!!) The programming is everything from educational to downright silly - no chance to be the slightest bit bored! And the kids had a great time. What more could you ask for in a small residential camp in Ontario??

If you want your children to experience a real taste of camping...no motor boats, no bmx parks, no radio stations, just the lake, and canoes and camp fires - they have to go to Kawartha!

My kids, age 16 and 13, have been attending Camp Kawartha for 7 years. Every year when we pick them up, they talk about how much they can't wait for the following year. My daughter, in particular, has made many lifelong friends. And living in BC, this has been huge for us because connects -- and visits -- with the great friends she's made from Ontario. I can't say enough about the Camp. It's definitely their second home. Silly comment, but if it was a University, my kids would be among the first to apply! Thanks Wham and your awesome staff!

Thank you to D'Arcy and Craig for providing a wonderful program for my daughters.  The things they have learned here and the friends they have made will benefit them for the rest of their lives. Each day they attend they come back excited, confident, motivated and wanting to share their amazing experiences!

After my 11 year old son spent his first two weeks at Camp Kawartha, we were sold.  For five consecutive years after that first visit, he has attended Camp Kawartha to pursue Pre Leadership, Counsellor Skill Development and Leader in Training programs.  The counsellors were terrific role models who encouraged Jonathan to be all that he can be!

The camp Kawartha out-doors program has had a noticeable effect on our children.  I have already been raising them with awareness of the outdoors and sensitivity and curiosity to the environment and the other animals we share it with.  But after going to this program, my children are noticeably more perceptive, more appreciative, more knowledgeable, and more interested in nature and their surroundings in general!  I am delighted with the results.

If you aren't sure if your child is ready for camp, send them to Camp Kawartha.  If you think your child is happy at another camp, send them to Camp Kawartha instead next summer and see what they think - they will be converts for sure!!  My oldest son ( just turned 15) has been for 3 years, heading into his fourth next summer ( hopefully as a LIT).  He has learned so much- he has become a windsurfer, a sailor and a tripper!  He is so so happy when we pick him up - if we offered, he would come home for sleep and laundry for a few days and head back for the august session!!  He convinced his 13 year old sister this summer to try Camp Kawartha - she had been to various muskoka outdoor and sports camps in the past few summers.  She signed on for the 2 weeks residential program, and when we picked her up, she was adamant that she was headed for the CSD 3 week session in the summer of 2013!!  We call the 2 of them Camp Kawartha junkies!! They are now working on their 11 year old brother that this should be his choice next summer!! The counsellors are a special breed - I have never met one that hasn't impressed me.  Camp Director Adam does a very good job of hand picking his team - they are always a unique bunch!  If you choose Camp Kawartha for your child, I will say with 100% certainty - you will not be sorry!!

My Girls had fun during their week at camp Kawartha. The councillors are good roll models and lots of fun.  They want to go again next year for a longer stay.

Camp Kawartha has offered both of my children not only a fun and healthy opportunity to commune with nature, but a fantastic environment to help them mould their character both as individuals and members of teams.  The counsellors we've had the good fortune to meet have all been ambitious, creative, talented, sensitive, approachable and friendly - just the sort of people we want our kids to be inspired by.  My children anticipate camp with enthusiasm and return even more enthusiastic than before.  They have their own tales to tell at the dinner table which provide months of great conversations.  We consider ourselves really lucky to have discovered such a great camp that has given our kids unforgettable memories and skills they can use for their lifetime.

I grew up never really liking camp so I didn't push my son to go when we originally started looking. Camp Kawartha was highly recommended from our niece so we decided to give it a try for a week of overnight camp. From the minute we dropped him off I knew he was absolutely going to love it. Every single counsellor was incredible, energetic and fun. They have a great range of activities and he even raved about the food.  He had the best time of his life!

My seven year old son attended Camp Kawartha for the first time this year.  He was so excited to be involved with the activities and thrived in the positive environment Camp Kawartha offered.  My son attended daycamp and wants to attend overnight camp next year.  His time at Camp Kawartha was the highlight of his summer and I highly recommend Camp Kawartha.  The staff were wonderful!

Both children came back with good memories and a lot to say. Wonderful experience. Thanks to the Canoe team and all staff.

Our daughter has been a day camper at Camp Kawartha for the past 2 years and this year, at the age of 8, wanted to go overnight. The intro to camp (CK101) was the perfect fit. She loved it so much that when we picked her up on the last day she informed us that she wants to go back next year for a 2 week session.

Every year, our daughter comes back from Camp Kawartha brimming with confidence.  She loves every aspect of camp and the independence it affords her.

My son enjoyed Camp Kawartha.  I would recommend it to all families who are seeking a safe, fun filled and worry free time away for your children.

Camp Kawartha is a very special place. The counsellors bring such an incredible feeling of belonging and joy for the outdoors. We had the best summer and can't wait to experience new friends next year at over night camp!!! Thanks so much to all the staff at Camp Kawartha - it truly was an experience we'll never forget!!!!

I've had my two children experience Camp Kawartha, from a young girl going for a week as her first overnight camp and now wanting to be a councillor there, as well my 15 year old son experiencing 10 days thru the wilderness.  All our experiences with Camp Kawartha have been nothing but amazing.  I have no interest in sending my children to a 'resort' camp.  Camp Kawartha is just the right amount of conveniences and experiences for any child to learn about and love the outdoors.

It was my son's second summer at Kawartha day camp. As it was the case last year, he loved it. He loves the activities, the place and the staff. He had a great time and we will, for sure, be back next summer.

Our daughter attended Camp Kawartha for the first time in the summer of 2012.  The first thing that she said when we picked her up was "I want to come back for two weeks next summer!".  She has told everyone about the great time that she had and is already talking about being a leader at Camp Kawartha in the future.

Happy to work on this and send it along, with kids' testimonials as well. Thanks for the great summer for all kids! Kim

We have had all three of our boys attend Camp Kawartha for 9 years running and feel that the camp experience has been one of learning, esteem building, and fun. It has also taught our children to get along with others, build friendships, and become independent. We have recommended Camp Kawartha to many other parents over the past years, as we believe it is a safe and fun environment run by capable people (staff). Our children have enjoyed the many different activities including sailing, swimming, rock wall climbing, archery, and especially canoe trips which have taught them many skills they would have never learned else where. Coming from our children, they claim the food is great.

My five year old daughter went to Camp Kawartha for the first time this summer. Each afternoon we would pick her up and listen to countless stories of her adventures until the next morning. Her experience at Camp far exceeded our expectations. I was most impressed by the quality of the Staff. The youth leaders were captivating, energetic and friendly. They made a long lasting impression on our daughter and I was pleased she had the opportunity to be surrounded by such positive role models. I big high five to CAMP KAWARTHA!!!!

As the mother of three, this was our first experience with Camp Kawartha. Every day on the way home I would ask Shanen how she liked camp. Her answer was always the same: "Mom, I don't like it, I LOVE it!". She has really enjoyed every aspect of her first camper experience, paving the way for her little sisters to follow in her footsteps. A huge thank you and pat on the back to Trix and all of the day camp counselors, fantastic work.

This was my son's 6th summer at Camp Kawartha.  He started with the day camp program and has worked his way up to the overnight camps.  Coming to Camp Kawartha is definitely the highlight of his summer!  The experiences he gets to have while he's there are amazing and we will not hesitate to send him back next year!  Thanks for a great summer!

This was my youngest son's first year at Camp Kawartha.  He has watched his older brother go off to camp for the past 5 summers and it was finally his turn!  He took part in the Day Camp program and he had so much fun!  The experiences he gets to have while he's there are amazing and it really helps to ease the transition into one of the overnight programs when he's old enough.  He can't wait to come back next year!
